The short version. InspectionLab has no Wood Lab servers, no user accounts, and no analytics SDKs. We do not collect, receive, or have access to your inspection packets. Photos, notes, signatures, and the packet file live on your devices and, if you turn it on, in your own Apple iCloud account. When you share a packet, you send a file through Mail, Messages, Files, or another channel you choose—not through us.
Who we are
InspectionLab is made by The Wood Laboratory LLC, trading as The Wood Lab, in Stephenville, Texas. Questions about this policy go to hello@thewoodlabtx.com.
What InspectionLab stores
InspectionLab is a condition-record tool for rental move-in and move-out walks. What it holds is whatever you create for an inspection, which can include:
- Property and unit details you enter
- Room lists, notes, and condition flags
- Photographs saved as JPEG files
- Signatures saved as image files
- An optional PDF report you generate
- Packet metadata in
meta.json(schema, status, checksum, and related fields)
Packets are ordinary files: a folder, or a .ilpacket zip of that folder. Photos remain real JPEGs. None of that content is uploaded to servers we operate.
Where your data goes
On your device. By default, working data and exported packets stay in the app’s storage on the device you are using.
Your iCloud account (Apple). On Apple platforms, InspectionLab can use your own iCloud (container iCloud.com.thewoodlabtx.inspectionlab) so packets and related files appear across devices signed in to the same Apple ID. That data sits in your Apple account under Apple’s terms, not ours. We have no administrative view of it and no way to retrieve it. Apple’s privacy policy is at apple.com/legal/privacy. iCloud is not a substitute for sharing a .ilpacket with someone on Android, Windows, or another Apple ID.
Sharing a packet. When you use Send / Share, the app builds a packet file on your device. Delivery is through the system share sheet or apps you pick (Mail, Messages, Files, and so on). Carriers and those apps handle the transfer under their own policies. We do not host a mailbox, portal, or API that receives your packet.
Purchases. Unlocking landlord features uses Apple StoreKit (product inspectionlab.unlock) or, on Android when available, Google Play Billing with the same product id. Apple or Google process payment. We do not run a license server and do not receive your payment card details.
InspectionLab does not contact servers operated by The Wood Lab. It does not embed analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or other third-party tracking SDKs.
Camera and photo library
The camera is used to take inspection photos that are saved on this device and attached to rooms. The photo library is used to add a logo (when unlocked) and to attach inspection pictures when the camera is unavailable. The app does not browse or upload your library beyond the images you choose.
Location
Location is optional and off by default. When you turn GPS on for an inspection, the app can stamp coordinates on photos for that walk. It is not used for advertising or background tracking.
What we do not do
- We do not create Wood Lab user accounts or logins.
- We do not host your packets on our infrastructure.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, advertising, or crash SDKs.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your inspection content, because we never receive it.
Apple’s privacy nutrition labels and Play data-safety answers are meant to match this: we do not collect personal data from the app into our systems.
Information about other people
Packets can include names, notes, photos of a rental unit, and signatures. That information may relate to landlords, tenants, or others. You decide what to record, who to send the file to, and how long to keep it. Depending on where you operate, you may have legal duties around notice, retention, and disposal. InspectionLab is a condition-record tool, not legal advice, and we are not a party to your lease or inspection relationship.
Checksums and exports
Packets can include a checksum so you can notice if files changed after export. That is a tamper-evident note for you, not a legal guarantee and not something we verify on a server. Exported folders and .ilpacket files are not encrypted by us. Once you email, text, or copy one elsewhere, security is in your hands—treat it like a folder of paper and photos.
Keeping and deleting data
Because we never hold your packets, we have nothing to delete.
- To remove data from a device, delete the inspection or the app.
- To remove iCloud copies, delete them while signed in, or manage InspectionLab’s iCloud storage in system settings.
- Copies you already sent by Mail or Messages remain wherever those systems stored them.
Your rights
Privacy laws in some places, including the EU and UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act, give rights to see, correct, delete, or take a copy of personal data held by an organization. We do not hold your packet contents. You already have direct access on your devices and can export or delete without asking us. Questions about Apple’s or Google’s handling of purchases or iCloud go to those companies.
Children
InspectionLab is a business and housing tool for adults managing rental inspections. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of the page, and for anything material we will note it in the app’s release notes when we can.
